... and there is your problem.

The TA stands for Traffic Antenna.

Your home TV has a built in receiver but would not work very well with the aerial in a cupboard.

The manual does state that the cable needs to have a view of the sky, it also needs to be away from the power plug and not coiled.

I have been very lucky because my Honda Civic has a large dash and has metal fixing plates on the sides and removeable plastic cosmetic side plates. I have coiled my TA cable and cable tied it to a metal plate which seems to be acting as a booster.

Hmmmm, may be a struggle then as there is not enough cable, it is quite short really. It isn't even a large windscreen, only a Fiesta van. The old unit I had, there was enough cable to reach around 50% of the screen, to allow it to be tucked in and enough to put another foot of it in the glove box, but the "egg" was in view at all times.

I have a Focus with my nuvi bottom right corner. Cable runs across top of dash and down to power supply by handbrake. No problem with signal. I'm surprised you feel yours is short Question

I shall have a look at re- routing tonight. It has to go from centre screen to the left door pillar, then down the side of the fascia and plugging into the multi connector in the glove box.

When I had mine briefly draped across the dash I found I only needed a couple of feet of the cable exposed.

Fire up the unit as is. Go to Settings, Traffic and note the signal strength. Then start moving the cable about and watch the bars for improvement.

Outside my house, the bars are full. I was in Market Deeping today and lost signal, so while I had some spare time, I got the cable out and draped it across the dash. It kept falling off while in motion, but still took a mile before reception returned. I have had to get some sticky pads, so I can cable tie the cable to the dash. Problem is, i'm not sure if the dash will make a very good surface, it isn't the normal plastic finish.

I have my 2599 sitting in the CD drive (so below the dash) and the cable hangs down to the floor. Traffic seems OK.

The car is a BMW320 (2013) - maybe it depends what sort of windscreen you have.

I don't think the cable needs to be on the top of the dash but just as open as possible.
I know the aethermal windscreen interfere with GPS but I haven't a clue about the DAB signal for traffic.

That's where the traffic reception bars come in useful.

I have heated front screens on my cars and haven't noticed an issue with the traffic or GPS reception Wink
