I don't know how many mobile camera vans North Yorkshire Police have in their fleet, but I can confirm that they are now out and about every day. During the last few months I have noticed almost every trip that I make in the area that there is a "speed trap" somewhere. And I don't do a large mileage. They seem to be blitzing the area with both old and new sites. I've lived in the area for more than 40 years and have never seen this level of usage, even with the old hand held devices. And to compound the issue they all seem to be parked on the only safe overtaking sections of otherwise rural roads. This of course means that when you accelerate to overtake a slow vehicle doing say 40mph it is almost certain that you will exceed the 60mph limit. And before anyone asks yes I have been invited to attend a speed awareness course for doing just that.
Still I suppose they have to make up the budget shortfall somehow.

I'm pretty sure that both Lancashire & Merseyside have increased camera van usage, I've seen more vans in the last few weeks then I'd usually expect to see in a year!

The Humberside police in conjunction with the camera 'safety' partnership recently announced the re-installation of 19 old sites.
I believe after consultation they have reduced this to about eight to be made active again.
It was interesting to note that Bricknell Avenue a wide, former dual carriageway [now reduced to one lane each way], in Hull, with a primary school, a secondary school and a sixth form college along its length was NOT included as one of the sites.
So much for the myth of the 'safety' camera as opposed to revenue cameras.
This would have been an ideal site to improve safety for school children of all ages.
