Panic. updated my speedcams from here this morning then connected to tomtom home to update gps quickfix and map share etc.
it froze on mapshare updates and gave me a red readout on the computer that mapshare had failed.
i disconnected tomtom from pc and now it will only boot to legal notice screen. it will not respond to the 'i agree' button and then switches off and reboots to legal notice screen over and over...
i have tried reconnecting to tomtom home and it does operate normally by controlling it on screen.
i have tried the reset by holding down the power button till i get the drumroll but then it just goes into the loop of getting to the legal notice screen etc..
please help. i go away the ed of the week and really need this up and running.
i do have a windows backup, but am not sure of the procedure to reinstall it or hopefully it can be repaired without using the backup as it was done some time ago and i have added a lot more custom poi's since then.
many thanks for any advice.

A few suggestions...

1. Delete the mapsettings.cfg file (in the Europe map Folder). (You lose all your settings.)

2. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=92188&highlight=loop

Failing all else if I have to reinstall from an old backup I will try that. Out of interest if I can backup up to date poi's from my corrupt one xl where will I find all my favourites and poi's stored as I may try and salvage those from this unit.
Thanks

POIs are in your map folder (Europe/Western Europe?) - same place as where you put the pgpsw cameras, they have .ov2 suffix.

Your favourites are in the mapsettings.cfg file (Europe map folder again) and can't be copied. Theoretically you can copy the mapsettings.cfg file and paste it into your newly restored backup, to keep your favourites and other settings.

You can deal with your favourites a better way, by converting them to POI....

Manage POIs, create new category called _Favourites - notice, that's beginning with the underscore character, which places them as the first POI alphabetically. Then Manage POIs, add new POI, select a favourite and add that. Then add another new POI and select the second favourite. Repeat until your finger aches and you've got them all done as POIs, then you can copy them just like all the others (maybe copy them into your old backup with all the others). After transferring them to the "new" recovered device, you can convert them back to favourites again - Add Favourite and select the POIs from Favourites.

Just a thought. You've got an old backup, you could try doing another backup now (call it a different name, e.g. latest backup or backup 20150428), then after you've formatted the thingy, try pasting this later backup copy into it, you could be quite fortunate, nothing lost if it doesn't work, simply delete and go back to the old backup instead.

FOOTNOTE - some of the above instructions may be a bit out of kilter - I haven't got the same model as you, so the menu may be a bit different, but there should be enough there to get you to the result.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
How do I format the device prior to installing my backup.
Thanks.

Sorry to be so long answering. To be honest, it's so long now since I used a windows PC that I'm not sure! I think if you right click on the device in Windows Explorer, you get options including Format.

BUT before you format it, make sure you do a backup first, using Windows Explorer - as I suggested earlier, a new backup in a folder called backup 20150428, copy everything from the device and paste into the folder.
