Hi.

I have just bought a Garmin nuvi 2508 lmt-d for my wife. She has only been driving for around 3 months and one of the features that we really liked was the way it told you what lane to be in.

We have just used it and that hasn't happened. You cannot even see the lanes properly. We drove up to a roundabout with two lanes, but the pink highlighted line covered the both lanes.

Is there something I need to do to get this working?

Many thanks.

Lane assist isn't available on every road or junction. Guess that was one that it isn't, you'll meet many more Wink

Hi sussamb.

Is that just with Garmin sat navs?

Do different brands have more road with it or are they all the same?

They're all pretty much the same. Lane assist is generally only available on major junctions where it's of some use.

Running latest versions of both Garmin and TomTom devices, there will be lane guidance in certain areas on one but not on the other and visa-versa

Both add to them with every map update

Only thing I don't understand - must be a software issue - is that Navigon and Garmin both use Here Mapping, and even with the same release of the Here data the Navigon does show a lot more lane guidance. Similar experience with TomTom is that with the same release the mobile app shows lanes where the dedicated doesn't - again and visa-versa

Guess it's the different software understanding or reading the map data differently

Both Garmin - with its Active Lane Guidance - and the future update to the TomTom software - both feature improved moving lane guidance, so I guess over the next 12 months or so we will hopefully see ever increasing assistance in this area

Yes, new junctions and lane assists are added with each map update.

Personally I wish they would drop active lane guidance, I just find that distracting Evil or Very Mad

For those that haven't seen it yet

Funny how we are all different - I would ditch the Garmin brand without Active Lane Guidance Laughing

I'm happy just to be told for example 'stay in the right 2 lanes'. When I do plot a route, as I tend to use my built in Nav for that, I rarely look at the screen other than to check traffic.

See I would be happy for Junction View to go because the Garmin versions aren't very clear - yes they are accurate, but for glance to view the TomTom drawn versions are much better

Shows how different we all are ... junction views are now 'photo realistic' so you should be seeing on your satnav what's there in front of you. At least that's my experience.

No they are near perfect is that respect - which is amazing - but BECAUSE of that they are less clear than a graphical representation (to me)

Idea If I needed to see an exact representation I would look outside
