It is indeed, and I shall be seriously considering my options when my Map Update Service expires.

Why throw away a Device that works perfectly well, even if the map doesn't.

Even my Classic GO, that my sister has borrowed, works as it was intended and still has the original battery. It might not read out the road names, but then a paper map doesn't even talk to you. Shocked

Just run into this issue with my trusty 910 using the latest Western Europe map (940.5966) - not impressed.

Of course it plans the route fine in TomTom Home on the PC. It's only when you power it up in the car as you're about to leave that it crashes ...

Google Maps on the phone to the rescue, in this case.

Oh pants!
I was just going to ask if anyone had tried the latest 940.5966 maps.
Obviously TomTom don't give monkeys about their older device users as this issue has gone on far to long without redress.
Well I won't be paying a penny for new maps until they fix the problem!
..and if TomTom think I’m going to buy a newer device... well I’ve just been given two brand new Garmin devices with lifetime map subscriptions!
I did want to stick with my more comprehensive X10 GO devices, but perhaps I’ll take the Garmins out for a spin as I may learn to like them Very Happy

Not to go into the ethics or mechanics of using hacked TomTom devices/maps etc, but on a technical standpoint some may find this very interesting.

On the TomTom GO x10 range there has been a bug in the Europe map from around map release v920 which causes GO x10 devices to crash and reboot if requested to map a route which crosses the M4 near Reading/Calcot.

As an example: The official v935 Europe map for x10 devices is v935.7544.
Reports indicate that this map still has the bug which will cause your x10 device to crash and reboot if routing through the “affected” area.

However I’ve recently seen an x10 device (most likely a hacked unit) using Navcore v7.903 running the Europe v935.5745 map perfectly and with no issues mapping around the M4 / Reading area.
I can only presume the map is intended for a different device but one that is using a compatible Navcore e.g. an older version of the Renault Carminat.

I’m not suggesting for one moment that anyone should start using maps that haven’t been purchased legitimately from TomTom... but what on earth is going on TomTom!

Is this a cunning plan to mislead us into abandoning our beloved old x10 devices prematurely?

It's not just a case of abandoning the x10. More a case of abandoning TT themselves as far as I'm concerned. Rolling Eyes

And I'm a long time TT user!

This error still hasn't been resolved in the v945 map. Rolling Eyes

Just downloaded the v9.50 map for Europe North and this seems to have finally been fixed - only took 2 years since TomTom broke it…….

Unfortunately it isn't fully fixed.

If you try to access the Westbound M4 entry slip-road, an error is still present. This was the first error that became apparent.

I think the problem lies at the point shown in this screen grab.

My thinking is - if you tap near any road on a TT map, a selection line runs down the centre of that road. Where the cursor is shown on the screen-shot, there is no selection line. Confused

Note that the actual blue cursor didn't appear in the grab, but the banner points to the location.

Unfortunately this doesn’t indicate where the fault in the map is.
I've gone back to the last x10 Europe map that didn’t have the bug and the road won't highlight if you click in the same spot either.
I just don’t know why TomTom haven’t fixed the bug?
The UK map works perfectly on the X10.
The Renault Carmat version of the Europe map work perfectly on the X10.
The Europe map works perfectly on other models of TomTom.
All recent versions of the Europe map crashed the x10!
It’s nonsensical and would indicate that the way TomTom are extracting the data to compile the x10 Europe map is probably at fault as they're all generated from the same data.
I wouldn’t have thought it would take much effort to find the issue!
There are still a large number of x10 users out there but TomTom obviously aren't concerned about loosing business!

Agree its not fixed in v955.

routing north up A33 to J11 & M4 west to Newbury/Swindon - TomTom crashes when writing route instructions

Routing from M4 east from Newbury/Swindon to J11 and then south on A33 - TomTom crashes when writing route instructions

It wasn't funny when it started but this saga has been going on for years....
