Hi

I have a Garmin NUVI 50LM which I cannot get to use speed camera database or Voice Alerts. Have used latest POILoader ver 2.7.3 with CSV & BMP & WAV or MP3 but no joy.

Have tried WAV & MP3 and can see the poi.gpi file in POI folder on Nuvi primary drive but it does not seem to want to use them. I have used previous versions of POILoader on older Garmins such as NUVI 255W & 250 sucessfully.

Now icon for detector is just small round blue ball not 30 50 or 70 sign so guess I may have overwritten icons.

What do I have to do? install POI Folder with speedcams inside on micro sd card?

POILoader should place the *.gpi file into the POI folder. The missing link for the voices is the SOX.exe files that needs to be placed into the POILoaderf folder where its .exe is.

Have a hunt round here for sox as you need an older version which is linked to here somewhere.

If the SOX is missing you should get a warning from POILoader that it has failed to process the wav files.

Hi

Thanks for info.

Loaded onto micro SD Card and now have Voice Proximity Alerts but Camera locations and some POI's display as small grey/blue ball does this mean speed icon is incorrect size?

The correct icon size is 22 but you can go to 24 max. The correct ones are supplied within the weekly zip file.

If some are displaying OK then it sounds like duplication. Make sure you only have one .GPI in the POI folder on the unit.

I have the same issue (same kit) but am nervous about proceeding thanks to the last comment :-

"Make sure you only have one .GPI in the POI folder on the unit"

I have Garmin's "Britains Finest.gpi" in my POI folder.

Does this mean I cannot install your cameras? What precise version of Sox would I need for this model always assuming it can handle speed related voice warnings. I say that because I loaded Garmins cameras last year and never heard a bleep! Having had to attend a lecture for doing 32MPH I want a loud shout.

Having that file won't cause any issues, Kremmen was referring to duplicate speed camera files.

Yes Very Happy

Any other POI file(s) are fine.

Theoretically you can have as many camera files as you like to try and cover all bases but you will get a load of duplicate warnings for the spots where all databases have the same camera.

Thanks for the info lads.

The Nu 50 does not have the ability to give voice warnings as shipped apparently. Does Sox enable them when this is the case?

Yes, sox works with POILoader to manage .wav files linked to poi's. Make sure you get the compatible older version of sox.

Without it POILoader throws a warning message at the end of processing the file(s).

Which sound file worked for you in the end. Wav or mp3?

Many thanks,

On a Nuvi 50 or any newer Garmin it's wav only.

From memory, only the versions that had an mp3 player could use the mp3 POI voice pack.

Once again thanks for the info. Everything is loaded now- only testing remains.

A good deal of my confusion arose from links that led back to the free alerts that were superseded by the official pay for ones.

For testing don't go out in this cold weather wasting petrol - switch the Garmin into 'GPS Simulator' mode via the menu and plot a route via some camera locations you know.

Thanks for that, so long since I used it I'd forgotten about it. Not sure how you get it to exceed the limits but I don't think my cheepo model has speed warnings - anybody out there reprogramming them?

Let it trundle along at normal speeds. All your looking and listening for is the cameras. You don't have to be speeding.
