So far not had a minute to myself. Just finished installing 2 new PC's. Once I get round to it I will update my maps.

Not sure if the main PC can handle the pressure though:

My purchase of the 3598 was a distress purchase. The Navigon lead broke and I probably blew the board.
I opted for a top range Garmin and the 5 inch display ad I thought 6 or 7 too big. For a windscreen mount I think I made the right choice.

It worked right out of the box but once home I looked for updates and there were loads. When it came to maps there was not enough space. I fitted an old micro SD card and initially this was not recognized but later it was. Then a popup suggested deleting unused language files; that fixed it.

Then I found I could change the map style so I chose Navigon.

I found the options intuitive but missed the 'better' or more properly familiar Navigon options. However the more I used it the better I liked it. The Voice Command feature is sufficiently comprehensive the you may not need to use touch screen whilst on the road.

What is essential for proper exploitation of the features is to work through the manual. I downloaded the PDF to my Kindle. I then spent time adding favourite places and categorize them which helps when giving voice commands.

A very competent GPS and I certainly recommended it.

Clearly weren't testing traffic as none of the Garmins are digital traffic versions.

Only change it claims is an improved traffic reception in Russia - seems strange that this merits a firmware release.

Don't think I'll bother...

I've ended up installing it.

There was a persistent nag to do it before I could update Garmin's "Cyclops™ Safety Cameras, U.K. and Ireland".

Back to commenting on the 3598
As a SATNAV - pleasant to use etc however the physical design of the unit makes it too heavy to safely work on a ventilator grill mount, the weight of the unit is too far away from the mount and can vibrate on bumpy roads and eventually fall off the vent grill.

I do not like the use of suction cups on windows. I suspect that the weight of the unit will challenge a bean bag type mount or a sticky dashboard mount.

Never used a beanbag mount but haven't heard of any issues with it. Personally I'm quite happy with my windscreen mount.

I like the sticky base mount with quick remove facility.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-010-10747-02-Dashboard-Mount/dp/B000F7689A/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1416740731&sr=8-11&keywords=garmin+mount

Just wish I could get replacement sticky pads though. I've seen them on a US site but nothing in the UK.

I have used a bean bag for a few years now. They are excellent. You can move it from car to car without any problems and they really stay still even on a sloping surface.

Here's another vote for the bean bag mount.
It really does stay put, no matter how rough the road or the driving is.
