You're right, it isn't rocket science. It would only require a different cam sub-set and a new icon.
As I see it, you have three choices.
1 Ask MaFt nicely if he would consider doing it possibly with some polite pretty pleases thrown in for good measure (MaFt is also a rocket scientist as well as a great database wizz kid)
2 Consider looking out of the window whilst driving
3 Do as I suggested above.

PS. I also think it would be a good idea.

PPS. I'm not thick either.I know how red speed cameras 'work'

If you cant see a traffic light on Red then what chance have you got of seeing an icon on your Satnav. I know where I would place my importance.

I would guess that the inclusion into the speed camera section is to keep the number of categories to a minimum as some PND's have folder limitations.

Personally I like it as it is which is to primarily warn of it's speed because I'm more likely to accidentally slightly overdo the speed rather than go through a red light.

If you do want to have your own separate category though you would need a small program to specifically separate out 'redspeed' from the Gatso files and then create your own icon and warning voice.

Nice weekend project Smile

This argument/discussion has gone completely over my head ... if there's a camera at a traffic light I'm just happy to know that, in fact thinking about it I'm not even sure I need/want any icon there. I don't go through red lights and therefore my speed on approach is never 'too fast' that I can't stop if the light changes. I certainly don't want to be trying to defend my actions having ploughed into another vehicle as I sped through a red light that ...

I can see what the OP wants.

There are speed cameras and there are redlight cameras each individually identified.

He wants the combined 'RedLight and speed' as a unique category.

Like what I said. And at the moment it seems to be about 3:1 against having a separate category. But I'm biased because my iGO already has separate alerts for redlight and redspeed cameras.

Make that 4:1. I can see no point in having a separate category either. Red lights aren't exactly hidden! Confused

Oh, I could see the cut and thrust of their request, I just can't understand why they need it, and they haven't answered my questions.

As sussamb said, why would you need an icon there, the fact that the traffic lights are there in real life should be enough.

Count me against another category if I haven't already been included.

The fact that it is a traffic light dictates my speed and actions.

Make it 6:1

Ah, but you may not spot the traffic lights and go through them on red as your satnav is telling you it's a speed camera there Very Happy

I noticed the interesting comment about Redspeeds increasing in numbers in London.

I have today deleted two pending submissions on the A406 North Circular, because they are NOT Redspeed, simply new Monitron type to replace older type of Redlight cameras.

I have a feeling some people are being confused by this - the location does NOT have the road marking ladders running through he junction, they are simply newer digital cameras.

Of course, my iPhone version of CamerAlert announces Redspeeds as redlight and speed cameras, complete with the operational speed limit.

What you are asking for is perfectly achievable, BUT it would not mean ONE more icon and camera category, but another SEVEN or EIGHT categories.
(You can't just have different icons, you need the separate POI category files for the icons to connect to)

In order to tell you the speed limit, fixed cameras need EIGHT category files for 20mph, 30mph, 40mph, 50mph, 60mph, 7omph, Variable limit and TBA (currently unknown speed).

That is why the complete download set for TomToms consists of TWENTY FIVE categories, (eight each for fixed, mobiles, SPECS and one for Redlights) or THIRTY THREE if you include another eight categories for pMobiles.

That's already starting to get unmanageable, so it was decided that there is simply no point adding another eight categories for RedSpeed cams, when it doesn't give you ANY more information.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.
