as of last night when I ungraded 2547 to version 4.40 when prompted (should have none better!!) mapsourse refuses to recognise the GPS. So I have been forced yet again to try and get my head around basecamp. have a trip to italy next weekend and now in a panic. I have uploaded all my waypoints, and a route from calais to Luxembourg using a few waypoints just hangs and hangs and refuses to calculate..any ideas please Sad

another question is how to I continue working on a route (extending it)

No issue here planning routes through Luxembourg with Basecamp so unsure of issue, but you can get your 2547 to work with Mapsource. Just set it to Mass Storage mode:

1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.

As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "dashboard" screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.

In Basecamp to extend a route just choose the insert tool and 'hover' over the final point, it will turn into a circle, click and you're away.

Thinking more about your issue. Do you have the correct map enabled? Could be just using the basemap which is hopeless. Also are you running the latest Basecamp (v4.3.4)? Also check your avoidance and routing settings to ensure you have nothing weird set, eg avoid highways

what about in mapsourse...don't seem to have the insert tool, its the pen right? or is it track draw pencil...this don't seem to work if hovered over end of route.

Sorry, thought you were asking about Basecamp Confused

In MapSource (which I haven't used in years) I believe you need to choose the selection tool then click on the final point, you can then extend the route.

BTW I leave my nuvi in mass storage mode all the time even though I use Basecamp. Easier for all sorts of reasons Wink

Easy in Basecamp and MapSource. Right click and select Invert Route.

On your device you can do it via Apps. Select the route and edit it.

Once you boot your satnav it should appear in favourites ... be careful with MapSource though. IIRC every time it sends data it sends it as temp.gpx, so if you send one lot then another the second overwrites the first.

Basecamp doesn't do that, if you send multiple data it combines then rewrites temp.gpx if necessary.

.
Frankly I find both BaseCamp and Garmin Express badly designed and programmed. Both, (especially Garmin Express) have a tendency to be temperamental.
I do not use either, unless completely unavoidable; even though Garmin website and support forces users towards them.

So, MapSource for routing, WebUpdater for software updates, and clone the SD card for map updates.

It saves time, the tearing out of the little hair I have left, frustration and spitting anger!

..
