My XL IQ Routes died while on holiday in Portugal. A bit inconvenient but luckily I was able to make do with my Samsung Galaxy S4 Very Happy

I took a backup and formatted it (I read this somewhere) now I can't do anything with it.
If I start up the tomtom unit it gets as far as setting the time but it then just hangs.

Help! Very Happy

Welcome to the forum. Was the back-up done to TT Home or directly to your computer as a copy and paste?

The back up was done through TT Home but it now says it can't find it.
TT Home seems to think my unit is a 'Go' for some reason Shocked

I can see the backed-up files on my pc and I've tried restoring by manually copying the files back to the unit but it hasn't helped.

In Home's "Backup and restore" section, do you see ANYTHING to restore?

Using Windows Explorer can you see any backup files or folders in the following folders?
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Backup (if Windows XP) or
C:\Users\username\Documents\TomTom\HOME\\Backup (if Windows 7/8/VISTA)

If there is really nothing there and you cannot find any other backups you've made in the past, then you should still be able to restore basic functionality. Try following these instructions I wrote for another forum here - that SHOULD get Home to reinstall the main operating software.

After that, whether you can regain your old map or not will depend on whether you have ever downloaded a map from TomTom before.
If yes, then Home might re-offer it to you if you go to "add maps" or "update my device". If no, then you would have to buy a new one.

I'm afraid all this just goes to prove how important it is to have at least one backup MADE MANUALLY, using normal copy and paste methods (see here)
