Garmin is up to 100 yards behind my position

I've had my sat nav for at least 5 years now but recently it seems to be getting 'slower'. It regularly has me behind where are am and on a motorway this can be a 100 yards or more. Even at slow speeds it happens. The worst is that it sometimes has me on a parallel road.
Is this common or just me?
I have lifetime map updates and update whenever a new map is available.
Is it time for a new one?

This used to happen to my Garmin when it was almost "full up" and there was no internal storage space left to operate.

Have you removed things like languages you will never use, text languages etc and more important, maps - I only install UK maps and if i go abroad to France or Spain, I install those maps onto an SD card to use whilst I'm there.

To give you some idea, my garmin now has capacity of 1.85Gb of which 1.44GB is free space
