Could we also consider how we tag those ATMs which charge for withdrawals?

Hi GPS_fan, doesn't an ATM charge or not depending upon your own bank and the ownership of the ATM you are using or do some always charge whilst others are always free?

In the UK, the general rule is that the ones owned by banks/building societies don't charge, while those owned by 3rd parties do.

I reckon the best bet is to only download the POIs for the bank/building society ATMs.

If known to be Free, and submitted as such, then 'Free' is appended to the Title.

Until such time that all ATMs have been classified then it has to be assumed that you might be charged, unless told otherwise.

Currently there 261 A&L Banks and 1695 A&L ATMs.

Santander may not be using all the Banks, so we need to know if they have transferred ownership, or closed down where they might have duplication of service.

From the numbers that leaves 1434 other ATMs. A lot of these were attached to Post Offices, but a lot of them (if not all), are now the Post Office own machines. The rest might be re-badged or removed.

For those reasons it might not be a good idea to do a blanket renaming.

Same with Bradford & Bingley. They became part of Abbey and are now Santander.

I appreciate all these issues. I suspect that Santander have rebranded all Banks, but wouldn't be surprised if they closed one or two down in the near future - although I don't have any evidence for any of this.

The ATMs are a different story as there were a lot in Post Offices and elsewhere. This is why we all need to have a particular look at all the A&L POIs in our areas and update them accordingly.

B&B are a slightly different story because there are currently very few of these on the POI database, and they don't cause as large a problem, although it would be good to get them all corrected.
