Garmin have announced what they call "an evolutionary leap in cycling technology". The lightweight GPS-enabled Edge 500, designed for performance cyclists where every ounce counts, weighs just 2 ounces.
The Edge 500 tracks speed, distance, time, GPS position, elevation, calories burned, climb and descent. It incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation. It can also pair wirelessly with Garmin speed/cadence sensors and a Garmin heart rate monitor.
Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales said, “Using feedback from the best focus group imaginable – the Pro Tour cyclists of Team Garmin-Slipstream, we’ve developed a lightweight cycling computer that’s powerful enough for the pros yet simple enough for beginners”.
The Garmin Edge 500 has a stand-alone suggested retail price of $250.00 and when bundled with a heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor costs an extra $100.00. _________________ Robert Brady
