Hmm nice idea Paul but what security do you have on the username/passwords you'll be collecting?
What devices is this aimed at?

The passwords aren't collected - the only place they are stored is on your device.
When you enter them in the form to generate your CAB, they are put into the AppToDate XML that is generated and stored on your device.
To make clear, the PocketGPS username and password is not stored on the server anywhere, and is only stored on your phone.
The CAB that is generated for you is automatically deleted from my server when it is over 1 hour old (post Beta).

Ah that's not a concern then!
I was editing my post when you replied, can you clarify what devices this will run on? I'm guessing just PocketPC/WM/Windows Smartphones?

It'll run on anything AppToDate will run on, which is anything with .net Compact Framework 2.0 or above and an internet connection... which means any Pocket PC from PPC 2003 Second Edition upwards, and any Smartphone from Windows Mobile 5 and upwards.
I should point out that I haven't tested on 2003 SE, but I have tested on a raft of devices from WM5 upwards.

That's a shame, I'd guess most users of those devices are more than capable of unzipping and copying a few files, what we need is an app for PND users

Some do yes but the underlying OS is hidden so even getting the .cab to run could be problematic?
Bang for bucks really, the greatest number of users are TomTom/Garmin whose devices are not WinCE.

Well for those PND's that support custom POIs they most often come with a desktop app that provides the conduit.
