Hi, Just registered on this site having just bought a Satmap. It's good to know that people out there are having the same problems as me. The basic functions are working fine but there are one or two things that confuse me. What is the difference between a trail. track and route? I have been trying to upload the traces of my cycle rides onto mapmyride.com and it doesn't seem to work, not recognising format or something similar. I must be doing something wrong, but don't know what as the instructions look pretty foolproof, but then I am a beginner.

What happens to the data collection when I stop for any reason, I have been turning the unit off to save power and turning it on again when I start cycling, does this affect the abiliy to upload data later? I will be using the Satmap for cycle touring mainly and will be going to Holland next year as well as other tours in this country. I have found a great dutch website with cycle routes that can be downloaded into the Satmap as POIs. I have found a site that sells an SD card with the map of Holland I will be in, has anyone tried to download specific routes in this way and has it worked?

Thanks

You need to use the SatSync software to translate the data from the active10 to a format that be used by other applications, are you doing then when you copy data from the device?

I wouldn't recommend shutting the unit down when you stop, just leave it on as this will reduce problems with position data drawing bogus points all over the screen, I use the screen off after 30 seconds function with my device, but I don't use it on a bike where you would want the screen on all the time. Perhaps you need to experiment altering the display settings when you stop to preserve power but leave the device powered - Mike

Thanks for the reply Mike. I have copied a few files from Satmap to my PC. The PC file will accept a file extension of *.* All files, which I have been using and the file appears on the PC with a GPX extension, which looks ok. When I have looked under the file box *.* is the only option anyway.

I have kept the unit switched on for my last cyle ride and will see if that makes any difference to the data collection.

Thanks

Allan

As Mike explained, you MUST use SatMap's SatSYNC PC Client software to copy and convert the log files, are you?

Don't copy them, "export" them and let Satsync convert them to GPX format.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I am using SatSync to move files from the device to my PC. I have not tried itt he other way yet. I have found out what to do to transfer the track files into mapmyride.com and from there I can see them on GoogleEarth.

I now keep my unit switched on all the time when I am out cycling. There does not seem to be a problem with battery life as there is only one bar down at the end of a seven hour day.

I e-mailed Satmap about the Dutch maps. They say they have them and are setting the price for them, they should be available early next year.
