When using an PDA based speed trap detector you have no laser detection, I was looking at this LASER ALERT from BEL

http://www.beldirect.co.uk/laser-alert.htm

It is a stand alone laser detector which would go nicely with the GPS system.

Does anyone know another standalone laser system or another way to do this?

There are many hardware based Laser detection systems but IMHO few are of any benefit whatsoever. Many do not detect laser at all and for those that do detect the laser beam the warning will be far too late and the probablity is you will already have had your speed read by that point.

The only occasion when these would have any hope of alerting you in time is if you picked up laser scatter from a car in front, in this situation you 'may' have enough warning to reduce your speed.

If you want the ultimate protection get an Origin b2 which has laser detection, add the radar detector and an LR100 laser defeater module(WARNING: These occupy a grey area and whilst posession is not in iteslf unlawful, if you get cvaught using one then you run the risk of a prosecution for Perverting the course of Justice) and you still might get caught although you have done all you can to prevent it!

In answer to your query, save your money and watch your speed instead.

I discussed this with Steve of UK Speedtraps and he has just done this report on the standalone Laser Alert Unit.

http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/laseralert.htm

I realise if you been hit by a laser, it is too late, but if the guy in front gets hit or someone else and it alarms you then this can only be a good thing Thumbs Up
