I work on the basis that if I know a camera is there, whether I see it with my own eyes or my GPS database tells me its there, why would I take a chance by deliberately speeding through it?

The government don't like detectors because they are actively used by people who like to speed and only slow down for cameras if they know they are live. . A risky strategy from the results I have seen of their accuracy! Hence they do nothing to promote road safety

However, databases such as PocketGPS World's merely tell you of a location and you would be stupid indeed to speed through a site knowing a camera was there whether it is live or not. The government obviously consider GPS based devices as a safety system because they make you aware of your speed and promote road safety whereas they regard detectors as an penalty avoidance system for reckless drivers.

The fact is that they will always figure out a way to stay ahead of the detector manufacturers which means constantly buying new hardware. GPS and a good set of eyes is definitely the way to go.
