Well the tradeshow season is just about to start for 2007. The CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is the largest event held in North America and is often the showcase for many new products, and of course a great meeting place for all those in the technology industry.

From the GPS side of things all the major players are going to be there with hints of lots of new and improved products. We already have a number of meetings set up with some of the main SatNav industry companies on the US side of the Atlantic. Monday is the first day of the event, with most of the big hotels in Las Vegas hosting some event or other throughout the week.

Bookmark our Special CES Blog to find out what is happening in Las Vegas this week...

Could you please ask Garmin if there is any further news on the POI Loader 2.4 beta, and if there are any other POI management developments in the near future

Your blogs are not much use When you fail to keep us upto date
here is the news from CES 2007 ( without having to travel to the CES)

TOMTOM
3 new accessories
The TomTom FM Transmitter Mount is an enhanced windshield mount designed for the GO x10 series that allows navigation instructions, music and hands-free calling to be wirelessly transmitted to car speakers over an FM radio signal. Simply dock the TomTom GO 910 or TomTom GO 510 on the new TomTom FM Transmitter Mount, tune the car radio to an unused FM frequency and select the same frequency on the TomTom GO. Turn by turn instructions and hands-free phone calls can now be heard in HiFi through the car stereo as well as up to 3,000 stored MP3 music files. Users can also hear songs on their iPod over the car speakers if the iPod is connected to their TomTom GO 910/510 device. The seamless integration between the TomTom GO and the car stereo ensures that music is paused when voice instructions are needed or hands-free calls are made.

“TomTom continues to push the envelope when it comes to technology innovation,” said Jocelyn Vigreux, president of TomTom. “This wireless solution using FM frequencies allows drivers to be guided by voice instructions and hear their music files through the car audio system for a more integrated and enjoyable driving experience.”

A gooseneck mount for the TomTom ONE is now available as an alternative to the standard TomTom ONE windshield mount. The newly designed mounting bracket can be placed on the sturdy, yet flexible gooseneck mount to give customers closer and multi-angle viewing as well as easy positioning on the windshield. The alternate mounting kit also includes an air vent clip for yet another mounting option.

Leather TomTom device cases are also now available for the TomTom ONE and TomTom GO x10 devices. The high quality leather cases offer an attractive look and finish and a strong resistance to wear and tear. The cases come with a detachable wrist strap to carry the device when walking. Subtle TomTom branding and the sleek, stylish design offer an even more attractive alternative to the standard carry case delivered in the box.

GARMIN
three New products for USA

the nüvi 370 and 670 which are basically the same as the 360 and 660 respectively, but both offer a built-in RDS/TMC receiver. These are shipped with the maps of North America as well as the European maps. nüvi 680 offers an FM transmitter for broadcasting sound to headunits, and supports dynamic content through MSN Direct.

Give us a chance! Sadly data connections are almost non-existent at the show venues Sad and so we have to collate all the data and wait until our return to the hotels before we post it.

According to Garmin's website, the 680 has US maps only but the info bar on the nuvi range shows it as having 'Full coverage'. Can this be clarified? Also, does the Tracker use the US equivalent of PMR or will it be legal in the EU too?

The previous Garmin GPS10 shipped with Que for PPC which allowed the PPC clock to be set by the GPS unit. I can't find this option on the Garmin XT application for PPC. Does it exist?

That's incorrect. New legislation came into place in the UK on Dec 8th 2006 that now permits the use of these short range FM transmitters. See the full details on Ofcom's website.

As far as I can tell from the thread, and not yet makingthr move to a nuvi, the new beta seems to be moving towards TomTom type flexibility in POI/Camera warnings, although I get the impression it's not quite there yet. I can find no official comment or statement on the beta

I think the answer to that is no. Given the focus on PND's they would be very unlikely to devote time to adding a feature that was only required by old devices unfortunately.

Thanks Darren for the reply.

I agree little or no chance but the code already exists in version 5 so hardly a rewrite? Thinking about it why does it not default to landscape instead of portrait as the GO's do?

Does that mean you wont be asking them? Sad

Regards
