Problems with Garmin iQueM5: It just does'nt come on anymore

I thought you might be able to help me. I have a Garmin iQue M5 with integrated GPS which ran out of battery while I was using it. It just switched off. I switched it on and it switched off again in a while. I then connected the charger and tried to switch it on and I couldn’t get it charged or switched on again. It just doesn’t come on.
I tried connecting a friends charger and battery to it but it doesn’t seem to work. I fitted my battery to a friends unit and it showed battery power to be 0%. I suspect that the socket used for charging and/or mounting to a cradle is or that the unit ran out of backup battery and this affected an IC or something inside.
Do you have an idea what the problem could be? What can i do to have my beloved unit working again?
