As many of you are aware there are a lot of roads in both TT3 and TT5 that are wrong. Either they are un-named, mispelled, mis-named or just missing all together in the case of new estates. This can be extremely annoying especially as I am a taxi driver and I use TT for areas that Im not too sure on.

Anyway I have started to develop a POI database called missing roads. If a road isnt on my TT map as an address to navigate to I go and look in the missing roads POI and see if its there. It cant give me house numbers but it can at least put me in the right road.

I have had things as silly as Queenswood Avenue being spelt Oueenswood Avenue.

So I have a couple of questions.

1) If you are able to would you like to compile a list of the problem roads in your area? This may not help you but if we can put all of these lists together and compile a national POI database for missing roads it will help TT users who are visiting your area.

2) Would the Pocket GPS team be interested in adding this POI database to their list and allow every user of the site access to the database.

Like I have said, compiling a list if the roads in your own area isnt really likely to help you that much as chances are you already know where they are however anyone visiting your area or if you are visiting another area yourself would I believe find a huge amount of help in this database.

I would like to hear peoples views and if the team back to me on it I will be happy to upload my part of the database to get it started.

Great thats one. Im covering Merseyside. More than 1 in each area would be great aswell. Less chance of missing anything. Got a little modified POI icon sorted aswell

Yet another post.

One extra thought. I have created my POI in the form:
Briardale Road, Birkenhead

That way if there is another cocked up road with the same name elsewhere in the country we arent likely to get mixed up and end up in Dudley or somewhere 200 miles from where we should have been.

I think thats a great idea,

I would help, I can do local area's around Bognor Regis and Chichester,

I will have to start poking about and exploring the area to find missing roads,

Carl,

Also how about compiling a map error POI?

An excel file would be excellent as I can get
poi Edit to convert them straight into an ov2 file.

Do you have the full co-ordinates in the excel file?

This is another good idea but how will it work? If its to point out a new dead end route tt is stil going to try and navigate through it.

Could you explain a little more how you think it would work

No, I don't have the coordinates. I would just locate the incorrectly named street and add the POI to it like that.

I have created my own Error POI, which I know TomTom will not pay any attension to but you could set-up a proximity warning so that you know there could be an error coming up soon and just give you a warning to be alert,

Carl,

ok send it over to me anyway and I will see what I can do with it. POI Edit can open excel files and then create POIs from it to add to a database.

My email address is ispartacus75**antispam**@hotmail.com

remove the stars and antispam to send me the file over

This sounds great. Could I send some stuff over to you to add to your database and then possibly share? What format would you need it in.

On a less happy note I was dissapointed to notice that only 2 other people besides me seem bothered enough to try and do anything about the map problems despite lots of people complaining about them.

PLEASE NOTE
The chances of these mapping errors being fixed in TT3 are NILL. The chances of them being fixed in TT5 are very slim indeed as we never got mapping updates in TT3 so I dont expect any in TT5. The mapping errors will be there for the life of the product I feel and anything we do in this thread is a way to work around the problem. Even those that drop TT5 and go back to 3 are going to be faced with the same mapping errors.

So please join in and send over your Missing roads files.

Well, I've now got a TeleAtlas employee in London to resubmit internally the map errors I'd reported already. I've also got an employee of Navshop to do the same, and the TomTom customer service team said they would do it too (but I don't believe them). Plus I've submitted them through both the TomTom and the TeleAtlas online report forms myself, and I've personally emailed the CEO of TeleAtlas to complain about the situation.

But I still bet nothing will happen.

Yes, send them to me in ov2 format,
My addy is 'cjackel492 at gmail dot com'
Have you added text to the POI's? i.e. Missing Roundabout, Dead end...

The problem is that everyone will be quite happy to complain about the error's but don't want to put any work into it if they can help it,

I will try and check over the weekend for some missing roads and send them to you next week,

Why doesnt it surprise me that very few people got intouch over this thread despite the fact that it was guarenteed to fix a lot of the mapping issues within both TT3 and TT5

Yet another forum full of plenty of whiners who will complain about the software but very few do-ers who will actually help in solving the problem.

Thank you to the ones that got in touch but to be honest without any other respeonce from the rest of the forum there is little point in continuing. With only the Wirral and North London areas covered there isnt really much damn point.

As for the rest of you, stop your bloddy whining if you aint prepared to help fix it!!!!!!!!!!
