Work is beginning on the installation of average speed cameras on the A90 between Dundee and Stonehaven in Scotland.

A network of thirty point-to-point cameras will be positioned along the road, fifteen monitoring each direction.

The £2 million initiative follows on from the success of the average speed cameras on the A9 where approximately 60% fewer speeding drivers have been caught since they were first introduced.

A spokeswoman for The National Transport Agency said: "The average speed camera equipment will not be installed until later in the summer with the full camera system expected to go live in the autumn."

[CynicMode]But were there fewer accidents, as that's what 'they' claim they are for and not specifically to catch speeding drivers. But but isn't it strange that they use the statistic of how many speeders they caught as a measure of success.[/CynicMode]

put simply : speeding is far from the number 1 cause of accidents so stopping or reducing it does not result in a significant reduction in those accidents.

Since speedcameras are supposed to reduce accidents (or were until the M1 debacle) they simply don't work for that purpose. Never have and never will.

They are however the control freak's wet dream and a perfect lever for those 'anti' the concept of personalised transport for what ever reason. They are welcomed by people who don't drive but hate those of us that do and more so those that dare to enjoy the liberty it brings.

Data was always manipulated to say what ever the user desired; reducing speeding is a totally meaningless figure - connected to nothing and its lack of correlation to accidents once again highlights the fact that even the randomly chosen speed limits themselves are nonsense.

More to come probably. Ditch your number plates or stop insuring / taxing your cars. Only the law abiding can be prosecuted by these utterly contemptible devices.
