TomTom sign-up Billy Connolly to give you direction

Article by: Darren Griffin
Date: 16 Apr 2010

pocketgpsworld.comTomTom have signed Billy Connolly to provide recorded voice guidance instructions on your TomTom satnav.

Adding to a long least of real celeb voices including Snopp Dog, John Cleese and Homer Simpson, the voice is a novelty item and costs £8.99 to download.

Although his natural style has been toned down for the family friendly satnav, he'll still have a go if you don't follow his navigation instructions. "Make a U turn. None of this would have been necessary had you been listening a minute ago", or "U turn ahead. I'll be here when you get back".

Billy Connolly can be downloaded from today for £8.99. Visit www.tomtom.com/billyconnolly to hear samples of the voice.

I'm a BC fan and I'll admit I didn't expect great things of this given he can't swear but the samples suggest it might actually be quite fun for a short while!

No swearing, no dirty bits... without them it's not the genuine Big Yin.

The trouble with all celebrity voices is that you lose the TTS facility.

Now if you could get Billy Connolly as a TTS voice then that might be worthwhile!

Not my favourite performer. Irritates me that he has to crease up at his own joke before telling the rest of us. Celebrity TTS is a very good idea though.

I am sure Billy Connolly will enjoy getting the sassenachs lost because of Tomtom Mapping errors

Celebrity TTS is a long way off, it's a computerised voice after all rather than a real person.

As these are surely only novelty items I guess it doesn't make a great deal of difference though, some people prefer not to use TTS, some people don't have TTS as an option either.

£8.99 is taking the Michael a bit isn't it????

That's at least 8 cans of Special Brew Twisted Evil

Or 1/3 the price of the full UK & Ireland copilot 8...................
