A hapless 21 year old drink driver found himself in a police station car park after his satnav directed him there by mistake.

Prajay Shrestha from Reading had spent the evening with his partner at an Aldershot restaurant and was looking for a local hotel to stay the night, but ended up in the car park, up a kerb and on a grass verge, blocking its entrance.

His car was spotted by police officers and they took him into the station for a blood test.

They found 158 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood which is almost twice the legal limit of 80mg. He pleaded guilty at Aldershot Magistrates' Court to driving under the influence.

Shrestha's solicitor told the court: "He admits he had some champagne in the restaurant, but he was not going to drive home, he was going to get a hotel. He was trying to get to the Travelodge and the satnav led him to the police station car park. He was lost." The Travelodge is actually located behind the police station.

Shrestha was consequently banned from driving for 17 months and fined £250.

His solicitor said "but he was not going to drive home, he was going to get a hotel"
As if that makes any difference when you're twice over the limit. Fantastic defence lawyer!
