Mail Online have reported that 1000's of drivers are buying 'stealth plates' which obscure the registration number of a car.

Drivers are avoiding speed camera fines, but risking imprisonment.

Some simply utilise a black shutter which descends over the plate and another swivels - similar to the plates used in the James Bond films.

The devices, which are on sale at sites such as eBay, cost in the region of £75 and can be operated by a remote control button.

Lawyer Nick Freeman (Mr Loophole) commented: "Drivers have a legal duty to display their number plates at all times. Anyone who does not do that is committing an offence."

He added: "The spirit behind these is to avoid prosecution. Even possession of them is incredibly risky. Punishment would be immediate custody with sentences ranging from a minimum of three or four months up to two years."

Presumably to allow these ******* to speed through accident black spots.

Wonder if I can capture any on my dashcam and report them with video evidence ?

Much safer to just remove your plate and if stopped say someone must have nicked it - most likely be given the benefit of the doubt as most cops are reasonable guys.
