Ireland Receives European Award for Road Death Reduction
Article by: robert Date: 22 Jun 2010
Ireland has been recognised for "the substantial cuts in its road deaths since 2001", reports RTE.
It received The European Transport Safety Council road safety award that acknowledges a 41% cut in fatalities on the Republic's roads.
Although the Irish Government attributes the fall to a combination of improvements in road design, education and garda enforcement, the Executive Director of the Safety Council warned that they would be monitoring progress on the Irish government's commitment to their promise of rolling out further speed cameras in October this year.
