CTV Montreal have reported that Quebec could face class-action lawsuits over speed camera tickets.
This follows a case in November last year when a Quebec judge threw out a driver's $1,100 (approximately £670) fine, ruling that speed camera photo evidence only amounts to "hearsay" without a witnesses to the infringement.
Two Montreal lawyers hope to reverse or throw out 400 hundred thousand speeding tickets worth over 100 million Canadian dollars over the last three years. There is a legal cut-off of three years.
One of the lawyers commented: "We are claiming that the system set up by the government essentially tricked people into saying, 'We've this super solid evidence against you'. By having this in writing, confirmed, it gives us the green light to move forward to obtain compensation for citizens."
It is expected to take a year before a judge decides whether the class action can go ahead. Hundred of tickets have been put on hold for the time being.
