Garmin GPSMap Spotted in Russian Attack Jet

Russia's military machine may be vast but sometimes the tech is a little behind as witnessed by some pictures that appeared on Twitter last week.

Posted by @Missilito, the pics show an SU-24 as it perfoms an in-flight refuel from an Il-76 tanker aircraft. But the really interesting bis is the Garmin GPS, mounted on top of the instrument panel in a crudely fashioned homebrew cradle.

It's not uncommon to see consumer GPS in-use in commercial passenger aircraft but it is thankfully rare to see them in a fast jet, presumably Russia still has some whose navigation systems are overdue a refresh.

Could be why they keep drifting into Turkish airspace?

Looks like the Gamin gpsMAP64 like the one I've just purchased. Can't see how they could possibly not know where they were even if it was cloudy and rainy (and trees overhead). Maybe their maps aren't that good!!?? Laughing

Maybe they have no trust with GLONASS. I also cannot see the reason why they do not know where they were.

Maybe the OE SU-24 Sat Nav won't take the PGPSW database! Laughing
