Essex Has Spent 80000 On Camera Repairs In 5 Years

Over 80,000 has been spent on repairs to sixteen speed cameras in Essex over the last five years.

According to answers from a Freedom of Information request, over the period, thirteen cameras fell victim to arson attacks and three were damaged by vehicles.

In all, Essex Police spent 83,000 between 2012 and June 2017. The first six months of this year accounted for 27,500 in costs for repairing just three cameras.

The figures below show the amount of cameras damaged each year and the associated costs:

2012: 3 21,000
2013: 2 11,000
2014: 3 7,500
2015: 1 2,500
2016: 4 13,800
2017 (to June): 3 27,500
