A speed camera has been reportedly flashing away at drivers who were not in fact breaking the speed limit.

The camera, on the A33 Redbridge Road in Southampton, worried many law-abiding motorists as it was supposedly activated by every vehicle that passed it.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police commented: "We have checked and there does not appear to be any fault. We do know that on previous occasions low sun reflecting off the cameras has made it seem as though they're flashing when in fact they were not."

They added: "In the unlikely event that drivers have been flashed when travelling within the speed limit, these images will not be processed."
