Android Auto, Google's automotive dashboard software, is now available on the US 2015 Hyundai Sonata model range, marking its first appearance in a production vehicle.
Unveiled a year ago, Android Auto allows a USB connected Android phone (Android 5.0 Lollipop or later) to display compatible apps on the in-dash display where they will be fully integrated with the cars audio and hardware controls.
Android Auto, and Apple's version, CarPlay, should be the answer that we've all been waiting for as they allow you to use your choice of satnav app with all the benefits of a factory fit system such as large display, steering wheel or console mounted controls and improved audio.
Perhaps the biggest concern was having vehicles tied to either Google or Apple, but Hyundai have answered this by making both available so buyers can choose. Better still, existing Sonata owners cane receive a software upgrade to add Android Auto, although this will necessitate a trip to the dealer.
