A9 Changes Speed Up Lorries and Slow Down Cars

Speeding on the A9 in Scotland has reduced dramatically following the introduction of three million pounds worth of average speed cameras.
It has been reported by Herald Scotland that "speeding on the main road north has dropped from one in three to just one in twenty after new cameras were introduced".
Also, over the last three months, the number of drivers caught speeding by 10 mph over the limit between Perth and Inverness has fallen by about 97%.
Since October 28th 2014, only 298 vehicles have been caught over the speed limit "to a level which warranted further action".
Head of Scotland's road policing Chief Superintendent Iain Murray, said "In the first three months of operation we have seen a more than eight-fold decrease in the number of people caught speeding on this stretch of road compared with the same time last year when there were 2,493 offences recorded."
The figures may be skewed due to the speed limit for HGVs being raised from 40 mph to 50 mph to coincide with the cameras being activated - there will most likely be a lot less trucks getting caught for speeding.
Hauliers have reported shorter journey times for lorries. Not so for cars though - the Director of Road Safety Scotland Michael McDonnell commented: ""As expected, there has been a slight increase in journey times, although some of this can be explained by roadworks that were in place as part of the dualling programme and some of the recent severe weather that we've seen."
The A9, which some call the Spine Of Scotland, is Scotland's longest road.

I would like to see the same approach taken on the A roads in Lincolnshire, get rid of the stupid National Speed limt signs replacing them with 50 MPH for all major road users. This would reduce the accident rate in this county by a considerable margin in my opinion - Mike

Just took a trip this week to Glasgow via the A9 Aviemore-Perth section and noticed all the GATSO's have gone!. Their road markings are still there, and the new Average Speed detection seems to keep vehicles at an average 48mph when in queues?
Also, can someone definitively say if SPECS averages speed by vehicle type (ANPR) over each section, or just averages the signed speed limits in force?
A car can average 60mph, and a truck can now average 50mph on the newer HGV speed schemed sections! If that truck averages 56mph (nothing new ) does/will the truck receive a notice for exceeding the average?
