Arnie's Speed Cameras Roadblocked

Article by: robert
Date: 7 Feb 2010

pocketgpsworld.comThe Senate Budget Committee has delayed Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan to raise $400 million by installing speed cameras across California.

With a $20 billion budget deficit, the state has dire economic problems and the initiative was one line of attack to address the problem. Schwarzenegger's office claims the measure's main aim was to address public safety.

Fines would have ranged from $225 to $325 and the money was to be split between trial courts and local governments.

Bipartisan political opposition from Democratic and Republican senators as well as the Teamsters Union and the Automobile Club of Southern California appears to have stalled Arnie's dream of rolling out up to 500 cameras.

It was argued that cynical manipulation of the length of traffic light sequences might ensue along with an increase of rear-end shunts brought about by sudden braking.

He is taking 'terminator' far too seriously, what happened to freedom?
the USA will end up like the UK, a police run communist country run by dictators in the 'interest' of "health and safety"
